Infinite Descent on Elliptic Curves

We present an algorithm for computing an upper bound for the difference of the logarithmic height and the canonical height on elliptic curves. Moreover a new method for performing the infinite descent on elliptic curves is given, using ideas from the geometry of numbers. These algorithms are practical and are demonstrated by a few examples.

Constructive and destructive facets of torus-based cryptography

We introduce a constructive model for algebraic tori based on reduced divisors on singular curves. By using a singular hyperelliptic model, this provides an alternative representation, and computational model, for groups of rational points on an algebraic tori [4]. We obtain a represention of elements on certain tori of dimension r in compact representation using r +1 elements. By embedding the...

Weil Descent Attack for Artin-Schreier Curves

In this paper, we show how the method introduced by Gaudry, Hess and Smart can be extended to a family of algebraic curves using Artin-Schreier extensions. This family also extends the number of hyperelliptic curves in characteristic 2 vulnarable to the Weil decent attack obtained by Galbraith. We also show that the genus of the resulting curve will be one of two easily computable values.

Elliptic Curves Group Law and Mordell-weil

This paper assumes no background on elliptic curves and culminates with a proof of the Mordell-Weil theorem. The Riemann-Roch and Dirichlet unit theorem are recalled but used without proof, but everything else is self-contained. After some elementary properties of elliptic curves are given, the group structure is explored in detail.

Explicit isogeny descent on elliptic curves

In this note, we consider an `-isogeny descent on a pair of elliptic curves over Q. We assume that ` > 3 is a prime. The main result expresses the relevant Selmer groups as kernels of simple explicit maps between finitedimensional F`-vector spaces defined in terms of the splitting fields of the kernels of the two isogenies. We give examples of proving the `-part of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer...
